View this post on Instagram In Chiang Mai, I rented a scooter for 8 days and set off for about 600km on the Mae Hong Son Loop. On the first night, I stopped at Huai Nam Dang National Park. I rented sleeping stuff for the night. They only had these unnecessarily complicated 3 person tents that I needed my neighbors help with. Located only 45min before Pai I expected a few backpackers stopping for the night, but I didn't see a single white person. I took some sunset pictures and nibbled on a steamed Chinese bun. The hundreds of tight curves on beautiful roads had me on a high. I didn't want to curl up in my sleeping bag quite yet. I felt a bit awkward walking by myself around camp with families and friends gathered around, but soon a middle aged woman struck up a conversation. She invited me over to their tent. They offered me rice and curry with a corn on the cob for dinner. I learned that they're from Phuket and that North Thailand is a popular spot to escape the Southern heat. Your mind often imagines the loneliest worst case scenario when going off on your own, but can't predict laying down and star gazing with a group of five Thai friends you met an hour prior.
