View this post on Instagram Waking up early shows intention. On this morning, Sarah and I set our alarms before the sun did. Neither of us are morning people, but we woke up for a mission. Sarah was obsessed with @freesolofilm by @jimmychin and I hadn't seen it yet. Somewhere on a mountain top, I researched screenings in New Zealand and bought tickets for a show in Wanaka. Objective: Watch Free Solo at 5pm Where: Cinema Paradiso, Wanaka Problem: Not in Wanaka Mission: Walk 35 km (22 miles) before 5pm Mission Recap: We started the steep 967m (3,172ft), 4km descent by the light of our head torches. The opposing mountains greeted us with a warm "good morning". I found myself snapping pictures, then jogging a little bit down to make up time. The low clouds were frozen over the farm land. Once we hit the edge of Lake Hawea, I pulled ahead of Sarah. I rolled into Wanaka at 3pm. I checked into our hostel, showered, and ate everything I came into contact with. Sarah strolled into the hostel at 4:50pm. I threw a muffin at her, and off we went. Free Solo was well worth the knee pain. I highly recommend it to anyone. As @tommycaldwell said it best in the movie, "People who know a little bit about climbing are like oh, he's totally safe. The people who really know exactly what he's doing are freaked out."
