View this post on Instagram Starting in a couple days, I'm doing the Te Araroa!! The Te Araroa is a trail that runs from Cape Reinga, the northern tip of the North Island to Bluff, the southern tip of the South Island. The trail is 3,000km (1,864miles) long! For reference, the Appalachian trail is 2,190 miles. I also hope to do some side trips to some of NZ's famous great walks along the way. It takes about 4-5 months to complete the trail. Hopefully finishing sometime in March! After doing the Larapinta Trail in July I really got into multi day hiking. I wanted to do the AT or some big hike in the US, but that's still a long way away and once I return home it's hard to get 6 months off work. The last month was super stressful with preparation and logistics. I learned my lessons from a few months ago and I bought most of my gear from scratch. I felt way over my head at times. But once I discovered this trail existed I couldn't stop thinking about it. And what better way to see a country then walk every step of it?
